Benefits of Fiberglass Window Frames for LEED ®
Fiberglass window frames offer many important benefits for buildings when it comes to energy and environmental performance. In terms of impact on LEED ® , the most significant benefit of fiberglass window frames is from potential energy savings (under EAc2 and EAc1). Additional benefits such as condensation resistance, dimensional stability, and material longevity, while not explicitly addressed by the LEED ® rating system, provide projects with a reliable and durable framing material.
The reduction of heat transfer from the building envelope (when compared to other common framing systems such as anodized aluminum) means that fiberglass window frames cut energy consumption, reduce operating costs, and help create buildings with smaller environmental footprints. In addition, fiberglass window frames enhance condensation resistance resulting in a lower potential for moisture related problems and an improved indoor environment. Furthermore, the superior dimensional stability and longevity of fiberglass coupled with its enhanced condensation resistance contributes to increased building durability. All of these benefits mean that the selection of fiberglass window frames can help project architects and designers create leading-edge building projects with enhanced energy and environmental performance.
